Factory reset: all models

This page is a cheat sheet: how to return any phone from our guides to factory settings, one card per brand. Detailed steps with screens, per-model variants and caveats are on the brand page — the link at the end of each card. Common credentials and network — in the overview.

Cannot find your model in the table? Look it up with the search on the overview: it shows which family the model belongs to.

When a reset is needed#

  • The phone is second-hand or came from a previous provider. It still holds someone else's accounts and, above all, the address of someone else's auto-provisioning server: the phone will download the old configuration and overwrite yours after every reboot. The symptom is “I set it up, it worked, next morning it does not register again”.
  • The web interface admin password is forgotten. It cannot be recovered — only reset.
  • The phone behaves oddly after a firmware update or experiments with the settings.

What a reset does not fix: a wrong login or password from the admin panel (just enter them again), SIP ALG on the router, no audio while the dot is green — that is the network, see “Phone not working: troubleshooting”.

What to check before the reset#

  1. Static IP and VLAN. If a network administrator set them on the phone, write the values down: after the reset the phone will ask DHCP for an address again.
  2. A provider's phone. A device issued by a telecom operator may be “bound” to its auto-provisioning server by MAC address — after the reset it will download the foreign configuration again. Ask the provider to release the device, otherwise the reset will not help.
  3. DECT. The base and the handsets are reset separately; after resetting the base, the handsets have to be paired with it again.
  4. Do not cut the power while the reset is running: on most devices it takes from a minute to several minutes and ends with a reboot.

How to reset: all brands#

First — a short table for the most common case: the admin password is lost, how to reset and what login you get afterwards. Below it — a card for every brand with all methods: on the device when the password is known; without the password — a button on the case, a long key press or a keypad code; from the web interface. “—” means the brand has no such method or the manufacturer does not describe it.

Steps with screens on the brand page →

No row for your phone — it does not have a page yet. Look for the reset procedure in the manufacturer's user guide under “Factory Reset”; the factory password is on the sticker on the bottom or in the same guide.

After the reset#

  1. Language and time zone — on the device or in the web interface (the time is needed for a correct call history).
  2. Network — if there was a static IP or VLAN, set them again.
  3. Change the factory password of the web interface.
  4. Account — step 3 of your brand's guide again, with the credentials from the “Extension credentials” window. If the extension password was not saved, press “Reset password” for the operator — see “Credentials”.
  5. Check — the green dot for the operator in the admin panel and the *43 echo test: a beep and your own voice mean the audio is fine.

If the phone will not reset#

  • The long press does nothing. An administrator may have disabled keypad reset (Yealink has a separate parameter for it) — use the password path or the web interface.
  • The password is unknown and the model has no way without it. Contact the seller or the provider who issued the device: on some models a reset without the password is only possible through the manufacturer's service procedure.
  • The settings “come back” after the reset. That is the provider's auto-provisioning — see item 2 of “What to check before the reset”.

FAQ#

Does a reset remove the firmware?#

No. A reset returns the factory settings; the firmware stays as it was. A reset cannot roll the firmware back.

Do I need to do anything in the admin panel after resetting the phone?#

No, the extension in the admin panel does not change. The phone just has to be set up again with the same login and password. If the password was not written down, issue a new one with “Reset password” for the operator — the old one stops working on all devices of that extension.

What is the difference between a “reboot” and a “reset”?#

A reboot turns the phone off and on without erasing anything — it cures freezes. A reset erases all settings. If the phone has simply stopped registering, start with a reboot and the *43 echo test, and move on to a reset when the settings are clearly broken.

Can I reset only the account without touching the network?#

Yes: open the account page in the web interface and re-enter the fields. A full reset is not needed for that. Some brands also have a partial reset (for example, Yealink's “Reset Local Settings”) — it only clears manual changes and is not a full reset.
